Your time away and next steps

Your path to returning depends on how long you’ve been away from IU Indy and what level of degree you’re pursuing.

  • Undergraduate student, away for one or two semesters: Register for classes using the Student Center. You’ll receive an enrollment date and can register during priority registration—it will be as if you never left! Follow these steps to register. If you run into issues, review these common challenges or contact your advisor.
  • Undergraduate student, away for more than two semesters: Reapply for admission with the Undergraduate Application, and be sure to mark that you are returning to IU Indianapolis. If your previous enrollment at IU Indianapolis didn’t go as planned, consider a Fresh Start through Academic Renewal. This policy allows you to reset your GPA but keep credit for certain classes.
  • Graduate students: Please contact your academic program directly. If you're unsure who your program advisor is, you can locate your program in the degrees and majors list. Your advisor will guide you through the steps needed for your return.

You’ll begin by applying for admission. The Center for Transfer and Adult Students can also help you consider your most efficient path to graduation through the General Studies program and gaining Credit for Prior Learning.
